Material Driven Design

Seaweed leather

New material + Design = Material Driven Design

Students of the Product Design Program at K3, Malmö University, exhibit material samples, prototypes and concepts, based on local waste streams, and they are all environmentally friendly materials.

Material driven design can be described as a design process initiated through the exploration of material, or where a material is designed, grown or developed through an explorative design process. In this case the Product Design Program look at local waste streams and explore how they can be used for making sustainable materials. All materials developed in the Material Driven Design course are biodegradable and can be made with simple kitchen utensils and cooking techniques. During the pandemic, the second year students of the Product Design Program have been working in their own kitchens at home developing the final material samples and prototypes in a true DIY spirit!

The exhibition will be in a windows at Malmö University/Orkanen/Niagara (exact address will come) more pictures will come to this site.
