Community + Crafts = Familiar Favourites
Familiar Favorites is a group exhibition which explores the different cultural encounters that were experienced daily while growing up in South Africa, through objects and ideas which were found in their homes or places they may have been.
These objects and ideas form part of an essential memory which for many may have been their first introduction to the world of craft and design. This exhibition is about bringing a connection to body and memory, recognizing the craftsmanship in craft making and the material used in craft. It is to actively engage in an ongoing meaningful conversation with those childhood influences and traditions that continuously inspire the exhibitors different design processes.
This exhibition will be presented by a group of South African designers and artists whose works have been deeply inspired by their respective cultures and historical contexts.
