Challenge + Innovation = Revolution
Blå Station is located in Åhus, on the southeast coast of Sweden where the ocean is just as restless as we are. We are driven by a desire to put into production furniture that we like and which – to our minds – deserves a place in the market. Curiosity is our fuel, as we keep searching, not for the already known and established, but for the unexpected, yet-to-be discovered.
”To meet today´s demands and desires, we belive it is necessary to have and open and innovative mind, a child´s curiosity as well as a heart that rejects shortcuts and apathy.” is something we live by in all steps in the development of new products and that very sentence, we believe, can be written as the equation for what we do at Blå Station - "Challenge + Innovation = Revolution"
From wheat to bread! From log to chair! Follow take part of behind the scenes of the design work of 3 iconic chairs and their own stories of 1 + 1 = 3
Momang
Momang is as close to 1 + 1 = 3 as we can get in the manufacturing process! The chair consists of 2 components - a 440 centimeter long piece of wood and a long strap. Take the wood plank, cut it up and build the frame. Cut the strap and attach it to the frame as plaited webbing as a seat. Voilà! Why make it harder than that.
1 Wood plank + 1 Strap = Momang
Röhsska
We are happy to show the contemporary and challenging Röhsska chair at SSDD. Designed by Fredrik Paulsen from Skåne, produced by Blå Station in Åhus and with a frame construction of a 150-year-old southern Swedish beech wood, it is Swedish and not least Skåne all the way.
Artisanry + Industrial production = Röhsska
Dent
With the Dent chair, the impossible became possible thanks to a completely new innovation and a great deal of determination. Dent is the world's first chair where ordinary veneer is 3D-formed. Even with the innovative production in place, we were only halfway there and Dent was created during intensive work to tame a hard and flat surface into a double-curved seat shell, carefully and comfortably shaped to the body. We succeeded!
Innovation + Determination = Dent
Still Life
Marcel Sigel offer a unique chair all in wood thanks to an iconic twist to the backrest. Although the ash veneered birch wood is bent to the extremes at the ends, the wood seems to flow effortlessly like a strip of cloth. Or rather a piece of cloth frozen in time!
